Ryan: GOP Will Hold Hearings on Clinton Probe

Paul Ryan said on Tuesday that the GOP will hold hearings regarding Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.

“People have been convicted for far less,” Ryan said during an interview with Megyn Kelly on Fox News’s “The Kelly File,” saying that he thought FBI director James Comey “was going to recommend prosecution” based on the FBI director’s opening remarks in a press conference Tuesday.

The Hill reports:

Ryan said the FBI’s decision not to recommend charges “underscores the belief that the Clintons live above the law.”

Comey said that while there was evidence Clinton and her staff were “extremely careless” with classified information, “no reasonable prosecutor” would bring a case against her in relation to her use of a private email server while secretary of state.

“We’re going to have hearings,” Ryan said on Fox, mentioning House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). Chaffetz indicated hours earlier on Fox that he was considering calling Comey to Capitol Hill to testify about the FBI’s probe and conclusion not to recommend charges.

Ryan said Clinton “clearly lives above the law,” saying Comey has ”shredded” Clinton’s defense of her email practices while serving as secretary of State. Ryan described Clinton as “grossly negligent.”

Ryan said the FBI should release its findings regarding the Clinton email investigation.

He also called for the director of National Intelligence to “block” Clinton from accessing classified information as a presidential candidate, given her handling of government secrets over her private email server.

“I don’t think she should get classified information,” Ryan said.

Republicans expressed anger and disbelief over the decision not to pursue criminal charges, with GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump blasting a “rigged” system.

Ryan said Chaffetz would be calling up Comey to ask questions.

“He didn’t [answer] any questions with the press,” Ryan said of Comey’s remarks earlier Tuesday in Washington. “There are a lot of unanswered questions here, Megyn, that need to get answers to,” Ryan said.

Ryan said the FBI “should give us all of their findings” in the Clinton investigation.

Now that the Benghazi debacle has ended (we hope) the GOP has decided to waste some more of our money on yet another witch hunt. I’ve read how disturbed some are about the cost of Air Force One being used to campaign. Why aren’t they outraged at the wasted millions spent on all these committees seeking to do nothing more than discredit HRC. Why haven’t there been investigations into all the others who deleted, and his emails? Why is Clinton SO special?

No one is ever going to find Hilary Clinton guilty of squat. Anyone that even appears to do anything to her that might jeopardize her career will find themselves hog tied and thrown in the Delaware River. That’s what happens to people who try and bring either one of the Clintons to justice. Hilary is the Teflon candidate.

Well Trump has been Teflon…so FAR!

Rosie0208, how would you happen to know that? Did the FBI “forget” to interview you, or are you involved with them in a much larger cover-up? This is very bad……

      • Rubendlct

Rosie0208 is just blowing smoke out of her rear, just like all other republicans who were expecting to get rid of Clinton and have this monster Shrunk, I mean, Trump become the 1st real DICTATOR of the USA!

How about working on legislation to limit access to assault weapons? How about an investigation in how to reduce gun violence?

  • Joey Galleno

This is all about trying to win the presidential election. They know that Trump is never going to win, unless they find a way to throw Hillary in prison. And it’s NOT going to happen, since she’s done nothing wrong.

I do hope Congress probes the FBI’s investigation, and does a thorough job of it. Just like they did with Benghazi. I don’t know what they expect to find, though. Even if they do find something, what would that prove? And what would that mean? It all looks more and more like a witch-hunt, and the GOP is destroying what credibility it has left in the process.
