Bond Actor Donates $47,000 to Sanders PAC

James Bond himself supports Bernie Sanders. Actor Daniel Craig recently donated $47,000 to Sanders PAC.

Americans Socially United received the donation. The group was formally known as Ready for Bernie Sanders 2016 and Bet on Bernie 2016. However, Sanders distanced himself from the group and maintained that they do not represent him directly.

Craig isn’t worried by the decision and wants to help Sanders in his campaign.

“Currently, I have been informed of no evidence to question that my donation has not been used as intended,” Craig said. “Should that situation occur, then clearly, I will review my position.”

The Hill reports:

Daniel Craig has donated $47,300 to a super-PAC supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) presidential campaign, according to the Center for Public Integrity (CPI).

The actor, however, famous for his portrayal of MI6 spy James Bond, gave money to a group that Sanders has disavowed.

The contribution was made out to Americans Socially United, which was formerly called “Ready for Bernie Sanders 2016” and “Bet on Bernie 2016.”

Those names confused Sanders supporters, who thought they were donating directly to the campaign.

Sanders, who is unflinching in his advocacy for campaign finance reform, has asked Americans Socially United to stop campaigning on his behalf.

His campaign sent the PAC a cease and desist letter in June.

Craig told the CPI that he believed the money would be used to help Sanders, who is competing for the Democratic nomination against Hillary Clinton and now leaders her in polls of Iowa and New Hampshire.

“Currently, I have been informed of no evidence to question that my donation has not been used as intended,” Craig said. “Should that situation occur, then clearly, I will review my position.”
