Trump Threatens to ‘Break’ Trade Pact With Mexico, Canada
Donald Trump recently sat down with CBS’s Scott Pelley for an interview that will air on Sunday. The Republican candidate told Pelley that he sees the North American Free Trade Agreement as a “disaster” and would likely break the deal with Mexico.
“It’s a disaster,” Trump said. “We will either renegotiate it or we will break it because you know every agreement has an end.”
“Every agreement has to be fair. Every agreement has a defraud claim. We’re being defrauded by all these countries,” Trump continued.
Trump was asked about whether he supports free trade, to which he responded, “We need fair trade, not free trade. We need fair trade it’s got to be fair.”
Trump also wants to tax corporations that manufacture oversees.
“Let’s say Ford moves to Mexico, if they want to sell that car in the United States, then they pay a tax,” he said.
“Here’s what’s going to happen: they aren’t going to build their plant there, they’ll build it in the United States.”
