Boehner Sets Election Dates for Speaker

House Speaker John Boehner has officially set election dates for his current role.

The elections for House Speaker will occur on Oct. 28 and the floor election will occur on Oct. 29.

There was widespread speculation that Boehner would stay on longer, buying the Republicans precious time to elect a new House Speaker. Now, the party will be forced to elect someone in the next 10 days.

Currently, Rep. Paul Ryan is believed to be the next choice. His election comes with conditions, many of which the Republicans will not like, but given the strict deadline placed on the party, they will have no choice to accept them if they want to find a suitable replacement.
