Gingrich: Rubio Won the Debate ‘by Every Measure’
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich believes that Sen. Marco Rubio won Tuesday night’s GOP debate.
“By every measure Marco Rubio won the debate and strengthened his position as a major contender,” Gingrich wrote on his Facebook page.
However, Gingrich also praised Sen. Ted Cruz and Ben Carson for their strong performances.
“Ted Cruz may have had the second best debate after Rubio and strengthened his claim to be a major candidate,” Gingrich said.
“Dr. Ben Carson won by not giving ground on the details of his biography,” he added. “His calmness was a victory in itself.
The Hill reports:
Rubio and seven other Republican contenders met in Milwaukee Tuesday night for their party’s fourth 2016 presidential debate.
Analysts say Rubio scored points with his responses on topics ranging from education to foreign policy.
He also stood firm when Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) attacked his ideas on military spending.
“You cannot be a conservative if you’re going to keep new programs that you’re not going to pay for,” Paul said.
“We cannot even have an economy if we’re not safe,” Rubio responded, citing the dangers of terrorism and China’s growing influence.
“The world is a stronger and better place when the United States is the strongest military power in the world,” Rubio added.
Rubio ranks third in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
