De Blasio: Trump Is ‘Doing the Bidding of Our Enemies’
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio slammed Donald Trump on Monday, saying that he is aiding our enemies.
“Let’s not mince words about it — he’s clearly trying to divide,” de Blasio said of Trump’s rhetoric on CNN’s “New Day.”
“It’s time to say that what Donald Trump is doing, in one way or another, is doing the bidding of our enemies,” he told host Alisyn Camerota.
“Our enemies, in particular ISIS, want to see the American people divided against the Muslim American community,” de Blasio added. “What Trump is saying is falling right into ISIS’s game plan. That doesn’t make us stronger, that doesn’t make us more cohesive.”
“I think some people worry about taking on a political leader who seems to be ascendant,” de Blasio said. “[But] what he’s saying is corrosive to our democratic values.”
“It used to be entertaining to some people, but it’s not entertaining anymore. It’s dangerous.”
The Hill reports:
De Blasio additionally criticized Trump for his remarks before the Republican Jewish Coalition last week.
“He goes before a Republican Jewish group the other day and begins using age-old, horrible stereotypes of Jewish people out loud,” de Blasio said.
“The coding in that language was unmistakable,” the mayor added. “[It was] the kind of stereotypes that have undercut the Jewish people for centuries.”
Trump raised eyebrows last week at the forum in Washington, D.C., when he said, “I’m a negotiator like you folks, we’re negotiators.”
“This room negotiates a lot,” the business mogul added. “This room perhaps more than any room I’ve ever spoken to.”
The Anti-Defamation League later said that Trump had not intentionally invoked anti-Semitic ideas during his speech.
