Charles Barkley: Trump Fans Are ‘Losers’
NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley blasted Donald Trump supporters on Thursday, calling them “losers.”
“It’s been sad to watch him insult people and then see his numbers go up,” he said on TNT before an NBA game in Sacramento, Calif.
“He started out this summer by insulting Hispanics,” Barkley said of Trump’s campaign launch last June. “To lump all Hispanics together, that was insulting. Living in Arizona, I think Hispanics are amazing people.
“Then you’ve got these losers who love that because they’re afraid to look in the mirror and say why their lives suck,” he added of the Republican’s supporters. “They have to blame other people. Your life sucks for a reason — because of you, not because of Hispanics.”
The Hill reports:
Barkley then rejected Trump’s call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S.
“Now to lump all Muslims together, that’s even more insulting,” he said. “Do we have to do something about the extremists? Of course we do.
“[But] to try and divide and conquer, which is what the Republicans always try to do, is just sad,” Barkley added. “This is the United States of America. This is the greatest place in the world.”
The former professional athlete also criticized TNT’s sister network, CNN, for endlessly giving Trump attention.
“CNN has done an awful job this election, an awful job,” Barkley said. “They have been kissing butt and chasing ratings. They’ve become like Fox News for the Republicans, to be honest with you.”
Barkley additionally bemoaned how the media circus around Trump has drowned out more worthy politicians.
“The guy I was supporting was Gov. [John] Kasich of Ohio,” he said. “Unfortunately he hasn’t been able to get any ground. He has not been able to get any traction going whatsoever.”
Barkley, a retired NBA power forward, is not the only hoops star who disapproves of Trump’s Oval Office bid.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, another NBA Hall of Famer, has also repeatedly criticized the billionaire’s divisive rhetoric earlier this week.
“I think that Mr. Trump is trying to take advantage of all the gullibility that he can to get elected,” the retired center said late Thursday. “And he’s doing a pretty good job of it.”
