DiCaprio: Sanders ‘Inspiring’ on Climate Change
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio praised Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders in an interview earlier this week, calling him “inspiring” on climate change.
“Look, not to get political, but listening to Bernie Sanders at that first presidential debate was pretty inspiring — to hear what he said about the environment,” DiCaprio told Wired in its January issue.
“Who knows which candidate is going to become our next president, but we need to create a dialogue about it,” continued DiCaprio, who has long engaged in environmental activism.
“I mean, when they asked each of the candidates what the most important issue facing our planet is, Bernie Sanders simply said climate change. To me that’s inspiring,” the actor added.
The Hill reports:
DiCaprio was referring to a remark from the first Democratic debate in October, which some questioned at the time. Sanders stood by his claim that climate change was the greatest national security threat in the second debate, which took place a day after terror attacks in Paris that left 130 people dead. The third Democratic debate is Saturday.
DiCaprio is among a slew of big-name Hollywood stars who have donated to the campaign of Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner who Sanders is challenging.
