Trump on past Support for Clintons: I Got Along with Everyone
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is adamant that his past relationship with the Clintons was justified and that he was just doing his job.
“As a world-class businessman, you have to get along with everybody,” Trump told reporters, according to The Washington Post.
“I was able to get along with Clinton, I was able to get along with virtually every politician you can imagine. When I went to Washington and I needed something, I got it,” he added.
The Hill reports:
As Trump has sharpened his attacks on Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, he has faced questions about his past connections to her.
The billionaire business mogul wrote in 2008 that Clinton would be a “great president.”
“Hillary was roughed up by the media, and it was a tough campaign for her, but she’s a great tropper,” he said at the time. “Her history is far from being over.”
Trump on Tuesday insisted that job was to make nice with politicians of all stripes.
“As a businessman, especially a really successful businessman, it was my obligation to really get along with people: Democrats, Republicans, everybody,” he said. “I had an obligation to my company and my employees and my family.”
Trump has in recent days turned his attention to Bill Clinton’s past infidelities in response to Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that the businessman has a “penchant for sexism.”
