Cruz Hits Obama for State of the Union Silence on Iran
Last night’s GOP debate saw the candidates unpack their values and look for anything to blast President Barack Obama for.
Sen. Ted Cruz decided to focus on the recent State of the Union speech, blasting Obama for ignoring the capture of 10 American sailors by Iran.
“In that State of the Union, President Obama didn’t so much as mention the 10 sailors that had been captured by Iran,” Cruz said Thursday at the debate hosted by Fox Business Network in North Charleston, S.C.
The Hill reports:
The sailors were captured after their vessels entered Iranian waters. They were held overnight in the country before being released.
Cruz said the incident cast a shadow on the nuclear deal struck with Iran, which will release to the country as much as $100 billion in frozen assets.
“President Obama is preparing to send $100 billion or more to the Ayatollah Khamenei,” he said.
Cruz also set the tone of the night, taking the opportunity to unite the Republican candidates onstage against Obama.
“And I’ll tell you it was heart-breaking, but the good news is, the next commander in chief is standing on this stage.”
