Janelle Monáe: I’m Tired of ‘the Man,’ Time for a Female President

Janelle Monae, popular for singing a song about Yoga, has called for the women of America to vote for Hillary Clinton because of her gender.

“I think we’ve already spent hundreds of years of having to deal with, you know, ‘the man,’ and I think we should switch it up,” the “Yoga” singer told ITK recently.

Whoever the next president is, Monáe said, “I do want it to be a woman.”
“Something’s not working,” the 30-year-old entertainer and ardent President Obama supporter said, “and we need to try to use a really balanced, strong, sensitive female candidate. That’s what I want.”

The Hill reports:

When pressed about whether she would be cheering on Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Carly Fiorina to occupy the Oval Office, Monáe replied, “I would absolutely support whoever is for minorities, because I look at things through the lens of a black woman. I also look at class.”

“I came from a poor class,” the Kansas City, Kan., native said, “Women, minorities, also those who identify as ‘the other,’ that person is often discriminated against. The LGBT community, transgender — who’s taking up for those people? So that’s who I want it to be: whoever’s going to protect.”

Monáe — who has performed at the White House and helped the Obama administration push several initiatives, including voter registration and ObamaCare enrollment — says she’ll be “really sad” to see the current president’s term come to an end.

“I really do want to continue to show diversity in whoever’s president. I just want it to really mean something and not be like the same politics as usual,” says Monáe. “I think when President Obama came in office, he basically pretty much did everything he said he was going to do and more, if we want to go down the list of things.”

But the performer got tight-lipped when asked if she was close enough with the president and Michelle Obama to have their cellphone numbers.

“I can’t give that information out,” Monáe said with a grin, “but we are close. I love them and am always going to support them even after they leave.”
