Cruz: I’m the Only One Who Can Beat Trump
Republican presidential Ted Cruz is adamant that he is the only one capable of beating Donald Trump.
“I think Iowa and New Hampshire perform an incredible function in narrowing the field,” Cruz added.
“What Iowa and New Hampshire demonstrate is that the only person in this field who can beat Donald Trump is me. The other candidates are not able to beat Donald Trump.”
The Hill reports:
Cruz argued he is the only one in the race who can offer a conservative alternative to Trump.
“You can’t beat Donald coming from the left,” he told Gallagher. “If you campaign against Donald and say, ‘Hey, I’m more liberal than you, I’m more into amnesty than you, I’m going to be softer on radical Islamic terrorists than you,’ it doesn’t work.
“[It is] as we’ve seen twice now in Iowa and New Hampshire. We have to nominate the strongest proven conservative to win, beat [Democratic candidates] Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in November and turn this country around.”
Cruz added that his philosophy would attract the same alliance of voters that sent former President Reagan into the Oval Office with landslide voter support in 1980.
“I think we will continue to see the Reagan coalition coming together and coalescing behind our campaign as the only candidate who has been able to beat Donald Trump at the polls,” he said. “We’re coming together to get back to the Constitution, kill the terrorists, repeal ObamaCare and defend the Constitution.”
Trump won Tuesday night’s GOP presidential primary in New Hampshire, with Cruz finishing in third behind John Kasich.
Cruz had won Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses last week, beating out Trump despite the businessman leading most pre-caucus polls.
