Bush: Obama Should Have Showcased His Family More

Republicans love to harp on President Barack Obama. On Friday, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush tore into Obama for not showcasing his family more.

“This is a place where I think President Obama missed a real golden opportunity, because he has a stable family, loving children – great, balanced children from what I can tell – a strong relationship with his wife, and he could have shown that as a model for others to emulate,” he said, according to CNN. “And I don’t think he’s done it as much.”

“Maybe he’s a private person, but I think that’s important,” Bush said of Obama. “I think how you lead your life as a president is as important as a five-point plan you have to deal with whatever subject it is.”

The Hill reports:

Bush argued that family is the best remedy for alleviating poverty and lifting people out of the socioeconomic class they are born into, pointing to welfare programs that have discouraged marriage by tying benefits to non-marital status.

He said a family comprised of a husband and wife creates the best environment for the rearing of children.

“To not try to strengthen family life, we do it at our peril,” he said.

The son of former President George H.W. Bush and brother of former President George W. Bush, Bush has highlighted his family more and more on the campaign trail.

George W. Bush is scheduled to return to the campaign trail for his brother on President’s Day.
