Rubio: ‘We’re the Underdog, and That’s a Role That I Relish’
Perennial third place candidate Marco Rubio celebrated being the underdog in the current election cycle, saying that it was a role he relishes.
“Obviously, we’re not the front-runner here, we’re the underdog, and that’s a role that I relish,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday morning.
“I’ve been an underdog my whole life, both in life and in politics, and we’re going to do well. We’re going to pick up a lot of delegates on Super Tuesday. As you know, they are awarded proportionally, and we’re going to move on.”
The Hill reports:
He said the Republican Party will never rally behind presidential candidate Donald Trump. He then hit on Trump, saying the billionaire is neither a Republican nor a conservative.
“Donald Trump is trying to pull off the biggest scam in American political history,” Rubio said.
“Basically a con job where he’s trying to take over the Republican Party by basically telling people who he’s not, and so we’re going to do whatever it takes.”
Rubio said he plans to stay in the race “as long as it takes” to win the nomination.
