Sanders: ‘Love Trumps Hatred’

Bernie Sanders said on Monday that he loves Donald Trump’s compassion and “hatred.”

“We are going to defeat Donald Trump because the American people understand that bringing people together trumps dividing people up,” he told listeners during a campaign rally in Ann Arbor, Mich.

“The American people understand what every great religion on Earth – Christianity, Judaism and Islam – understands, and that is that love trumps hatred,” the Democratic White House hopeful continued.
“The American people are not going to elect somebody who insults Muslims, one of the largest religions in the world. The American people are not going to elect somebody who insults Mexico and our neighbors to the South. The American are not going to elect a president who spends every day insulting women.”

Sanders also argued that he is more capable of uniting voters against Trump then Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

“Virtually every national poll that has taken place has Bernie Sanders defeating Donald Trump,” he said. “Almost all of those national polls and many of those state polls have Bernie Sanders defeating Donald Trump by much wider margins than Hillary Clinton. That is true in state after state after state.”

Sanders additionally derided Trump for suggesting President Obama is not a natural-born American in 2011.

“What the birther effort was about was a very significant thing,” the Vermont lawmaker said. “It was saying, ‘this guy is not really the president of America because he’s not really from the United States.

“[Trump] was trying to delegitimize the president of the United States. Nobody has ever asked for my birth certificate. You think it might have to do with the color of Obama’s skin versus the color of my skin?”

Sanders rallied supporters in Michigan one day before the Great Lakes State’s Democratic presidential primary.

Clinton leads the self-described Democratic socialist by about 20 points there, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
