Sanders: My Supporters Are Not to Blame for Violence at Trump Rally

Bernie Sanders refused to accept blame for the recent violence at Donald Trump’s rallies.

“I don’t think our supporters are inciting. What our supporters are doing is responding to a candidate who has, in fact, in many ways, encouraged violence,” Sanders said at a press conference, according to CNN. “When he talks about … ‘I wish we were in the old days when you could punch somebody in the head.’ What do you think that says to his supporters?”

“So the issue now is Donald Trump has got to be loud and clear and tell his supporters that violence at rallies is not what America is about and to end it,” Sanders said.

The Hill reports:

Trump was forced to cancel a rally in Chicago on Friday night when massive demonstrations caused violent scuffles between his supporters and protesters.

The real estate mogul has refused to take responsibility for the increasingly frequent violence that has taken place at his rallies.

At a campaign stop on Saturday, he said that his supporters at the Chicago rally “caused no problem.”

“They were taunted, they were harassed by these other people — by the way, some represented Bernie, our communist friend,” Trump said.
