Kasich: Trump ‘Has Created a Toxic Environment’
John Kasich blasted Donald Trump on Sunday, accusing the Republican frontrunner of creating a toxic environment.
“You can walk into a room … and you can prey on the fears of people, or you can go in and give them hope,” the Ohio governor said on “Fox News Sunday” in response to a question about the violence that has occurred recently at Trump’s rallies.
“I go in with my events and I try to give them hope, and when he goes and pits one group against another and says the reason this isn’t good is because of that group, that’s not helpful, and I think he has created a toxic environment.”
The Hill reports:
Kasich said that doesn’t mean there aren’t people who have attended the front-runner’s rallies who were intent on causing trouble.
“But it’s a mess,” Kasich said. “And hopefully it’ll settle down and we can move beyond this.”
He added that the most recent Republican debate was “far more civil” than previous debates.
“Maybe they’re catching on to the fact that being positive may be the best way to run a campaign for president,” he said.
But he emphasized that Trump will not become president, talking about his plans to win Ohio.
“Don’t be surprised if I go with the strongest amount of delegates into the convention,” he added.
