Protester Who Rushed Trump at Rally: ‘I Am Not a Member of ISIS’

The protester who charged at Donald Trump on Saturday, prompting a response from his Secret Service agents, has refuted Trump’s claims that he is a member of ISIS.

“I am not a member of ISIS. I have no known ties to ISIS. I’ve never been out of the country. I only speak English,” said the 22-year-old Thomas DiMassimo, adding that he is a Christian.

The Hill reports:

DiMassimo tried to rush the stage, but was quickly blocked by Secret Service agents. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and inducing panic, according to CNN.

In a tweet after the rally, Trump accused DiMassimo of having ties to ISIS. The tweet included a doctored video.

“USSS did an excellent job stopping the maniac running to the state. He has ties to ISIS. Should be in jail!,” Trump said.

When Trump was confronted on Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about the hoax video, he chalked it up to: “All I know is what’s on the Internet.”

DiMassio told CNN he charged the stage because he wanted to send a message.

“I was thinking that I could … send a message to all people out in the country who wouldn’t consider themselves racist, who wouldn’t consider themselves approving of what type of violence Donald Trump is allowing in his rallies, and send them a message that we can … stand up against Donald Trump and against this new wave he’s ushering in of truly just violent white supremacist ideas,” he said.
