Rapper T.I.: Don’t Buy My Music If You Support Trump
Rapper T.I. has dipped his fly sneakers into the political waters once again, this time with a message for people who support Donald Trump, whom he sees as a hateful demagogue.
“If he misuses and abuses his power to the point that he uses his money and his influence to tell people to do things to people that are harmful to my people, I just want him to know how frowned upon that is in my community, starting with me,” T.I. said to TMZ.
“If I stand on a certain platform and I use my money and my influence to tell all the people that follow me that, ‘Hey, guess what? If you go and hurt those people, I will pay your legal fees, I will take care of you, if you take care of this for me, I’ll straighten this out for you,’ That’s no different how they view the leader of some of the organized crime syndicates. What he’s doing is really illegal.”
“If [a Trump supporter] supports all of his actions right now and acknowledges how he feels, I wouldn’t want him to buy my music. I’d rather he didn’t. That’s not the road that I travel down, some things are more important to me than money.”
The Hill reports:
T.I. announced earlier this month that he supports Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a Democratic presidential contender. He said that he chose Sanders over Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton after comparing their past remarks on criminal justice reform and racial equality.
Trump, meanwhile, on Tuesday denied he would pay the legal fees of a supporter who allegedly sucker-punched protester during one of his campaign rallies.
John Franklin McGraw, 78, was arrested on March 10 after allegedly attacking Rakeem Jones, 26, during a confrontation in Fayetteville, N.C., the day before.
