Elizabeth Warren: I’m Still Cheering Bernie On
Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts was perhaps better known for Senator Bernie Sanders’s campaign message–money in politics and all the trouble that brings–that he was before his race. She has since remained stubbornly neutral in the primary race.
Yet she did have some kind words for her Senate colleague. “He has put the right issues on the table both for the Democratic Party and for the country in general so I’m still cheering Bernie on,” she told the AP.
“He’s out there. He fights from the heart. This is who Bernie is,” she added.
The Hill reports:
Warren refused comment on who she voted for in Massachusetts’s Democratic presidential primary earlier this month, AP reported. She also said she plans on making an endorsement but would not elaborate further on her pick.
The Massachusetts lawmaker argued that both Sanders and Democratic presidential front-runnerHillary Clinton offer voters better options on healthcare than their GOP counterparts.
“While the Democrats are saying, ‘Gee, is the right answer to the Affordable Care Act in the following six ways or go all the way to single payer [healthcare]?’ – which is a good debate to have – the Republicans are saying they are going to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with something they can’t describe,” she said.
Warren additionally blasted Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, arguing the billionaire routinely exaggerates his business acumen.
“Donald Trump claims that the reason he’s qualified to be president of the United States is that he is a very, very, very successful businessman. Donald Trump is not a great business success, and it’s time he’s called out on it.”
Trump’s fortune, Warren added, is cultivated “by cheating people, by defrauding people and by skipping out on paying for Chapter 11” bankruptcy protection.
