Rubio is making an unprecedented bid to keep the delegates he’s won after suspending (but not officially ending) his campaign. If he holds on to his 171 delegates, he will have some influence over the nomination process.
The Hill reports:
Rubio’s letter, to the Alaska Republican Party, asked that the delegates he won in the state’s caucus remain bound to him at the Republican convention this summer.“The decision to suspend my campaign for president of the Untied States [sic] is not intended to release any national convention delegates bound to me as a result of the 2016 delegate selection process that took place in your state,” he wrote.Rubio suspended his White House run earlier this month after finishing second in Florida’s GOP presidential primary. His letter is part of an effort to deny GOP front-runner Trump the nomination.
