Clinton: ‘Unborn Person’ Doesn’t Have Constitutional Rights
Hillary Clinton has taken a firm position on her support for protecting a woman’s right to choose to terminate a pregnancy, in light of recent comments made by Donald Trump.
“Well, under our laws currently, that is not something that exists,” the former Secretary of State said on Meet the Press.
“The unborn person doesn’t have constitutional rights. Now, that doesn’t mean that we don’t do everything we possibly can in the vast majority of instances to, you know, help a mother who is carrying a child and wants to make sure that child will be healthy, to have appropriate medical support.”
“It doesn’t mean that you don’t do everything possible to try to fulfill your obligations. But it does not include sacrificing the woman’s right to make decisions.”
The Hill reports:
Abortion emerged as a central theme in the 2016 presidential race last week when GOP front-runner Donald Trump said a woman who undergoes an abortion should be punished if the procedure is outlawed. He later said only the doctor should be punished in such a scenario.
