Sanders: ‘I Did Not Compare Trump To Hitler’
Senator Bernie Sanders was stuck trying to walk back remarks he made this week that some suggest were comparing Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler.
“No, I did not compare Trump to Hitler, but I will do everything that I can to stop this type of hatred and hate talk that we are hearing,” he told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week.
The Hill reports:
After berating Trump on Saturday, the Democratic presidential candidate told his supporters some of his relatives died in the Holocaust as a result of “a lunatic … stirring up racial hatred.”
“Some of you know I’m Jewish,” Sanders said at a town hall in Milwaukee, Wis. “My father came to this country at the age of 17 from Poland. He came over, other people in his family did not come over. Those people died. Children died. … So that is in my heart, to see what a lunatic can do by stirring up racial hatred.”
The story followed his remarks about Trump’s controversial comments on banning Muslims from entering the United States.
