Sanders, Clinton, Trump, Cruz Land on Time 100 List
Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, and Ted Cruz all made it on Time’s top 100 list for 2016.
Other political names on the list included President Barack Obama, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, House Speaker Paul Ryan, RNC chairman Reince Preibus, and Secretary of State John Kerry.
The Hill reports:
Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich hailed “the intensity and steadfastness” of Sanders’s message of economic inequality,” adding “his campaign has invigorated a new populist movement in America to restore democracy and create an economy responsive to the needs of ordinary people.”
Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.), the first female lawmaker to endorse Trump, wrote, “The U.S. is in desperate need of a leader like Trump who isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo and ruffle the appropriate feathers in order to get our country back on the right track.”
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) praised Cruz’s efforts to “shake up the status quo,” arguing he is “unique in politics today as he is actually doing the things in office that he said he would do.”
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) lauded Clinton’s efforts as secretary of State following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, calling her “the friend who takes the call, the public servant who listens and acts, the mom who makes sure it gets done right.”
Jennifer Pinckney, the wife of Charleston, S.C., shooting victim Rev. Clementa Pinckney, whose funeral Obama attended last year, praised the president as a “public servant.”
Mitt Romney wrote that Ryan’s “speakership has already achieved the unimaginable: it has offered an idealistic, inclusive vision for the Republican Party during a raucous and unruly presidential campaign.”
Ryan, in turn, praised GOP chairman Reince Priebus, a fellow Wisconsinite, for having “almost single-handedly turned the Republican National Committee around,” praising his efforts for the 2016 cycle and noting of their close relationship, “In stressful times, I often turn to Reince for advice.”
