Sanders: I’ll Fight to Keep Republican out of White House If I’m Not Nominee
Bernie Sanders came as close as he comfortable to endorsing Hillary Clinton on Wednesday when he said he would work hard to keep a Republican out of the White House.
“I think Hillary Clinton and I agree on this, that we will do everything we can to make sure that a Republican does not win the White House, and I will knock my brains out,” he told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing.
“I will work seven days a week to make sure that that does not happen if I am the nominee and if I am not the nominee. That’s what I will do.”
The Hill reports:
During the interview, Sanders said that “of course” his views align much more with Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton than with Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
He said he doesn’t think Trump “has any judgment whatsoever.”
When asked if he believes Clinton is smart, Sanders responded: “Oh, god yes, she is very smart.”
Although the Vermont senator acknowledged that he’s the underdog, he said he still has a “narrow path” to victory and will fight “for every vote that we can get to make that victory happen.”
During a rally Wednesday, Sanders insisted that he was in the race to win it.
“Let me make it clear so there is no confusion,” Sanders said during a rally at Purdue University in Indiana. “We are in this campaign to win and become the Democratic nominee.”
