Ralph Nader: ‘Why Should Bernie Sanders Drop Out?’
Former independent candidate master Ralph Nader questioned Bernie Sander’s critics on Thursday, asking why Sanders should have to drop out?
“But why should Bernie Sanders drop out? There could be a scandal with Hillary Clinton,” the former Green Party presidential nominee told CNN.
“Those transcripts and closed-door meetings with the big bankers and other corporations could be released,” he said, referring to Clinton’s refusal to release transcripts of her paid speeches at Wall Street companies.
The Hill reports:
Nader, who hasn’t made a formal endorsement, but often speaks positively of Sanders, also noted that the superdelegates who have backed Clinton are not bound and could switch their support.
“He made a good point, Bernie, when he said he wants to go all the way to the convention so everyone — ending up in California — every voter can have a right to vote for the candidate of their choice,” he said.
Clinton leads Sanders in pledged delegates 1,645 to 1,318, according to the Associated Press delegate tracker. Her lead balloons when superdelegates are added, bringing her to 2,165 delegates to Sanders’s 1,357. Democrats need 2,383 to win the party’s nomination.
