Trump: ‘I Don’t Care About’ London’s Muslim Mayor

Donald Trump had choice words on Monday for London’s new Muslim mayor, Sadiq Khan.

“When he won, I wished him well,” he said of Sadiq Khan on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain.” “Now I don’t care about him.

“Let’s see if he’s a good man,” the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee added. “It doesn’t make any difference to me how he does.”

The Hill reports:

London elected Khan on May 6, making the son of Pakistani immigrants the first Muslim mayor of a major Western capital.

Khan has since repeatedly criticized Trump’s remarks on Islam, arguing that the billionaire has “an ignorant” view of the religion and does not deserve to win the White House.

“I’m hoping that he’s not the guy who wins,” the Labor Party member said on May 11. “My message to Donald Trump and his team is that your views of Islam are ignorant.”

Trump said in Monday’s interview that he’s offended by Khan’s remarks.

“He’s never met me. He doesn’t know what I’m all about,” he told host Piers Morgan. “I think they’re very rude statements, very nasty statements. Frankly, tell him I will remember those statements.”

Khan took issue with Trump’s policy proposal for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S.

“I want to go to America to meet with and engage with American mayors,” he said in an interview released May 9.

“If Donald Trump becomes the president, I’ll be stopped from going there by virtue of my faith, which means I can’t engage with American mayors and swap ideas.”
