Trump: Scandal Might Force Clinton out of Race
Donald Trump suggested on Wednesday that Hillary Clinton’s email scandal may force her out of the race.
“She had a little bad news today. … The inspector general’s report, not so good,” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee said during a rally in Anaheim, Calif.
“I want to run against Hillary; I don’t know if you are going to be able to. It could be that we run against Crazy Bernie [Sanders]. He’s a crazy man, but that’s OK. We love crazy people.”
The Hill reports:
Trump added that Vice President Biden could step in to fill the void if Clinton is forced to drop out, noting that the “system is rigged” against Sanders, Clinton’s presidential rival.
Republicans have piled onto Clinton since the State Department report went public, arguing that it’s proof she is not suited to serve as president.
But the Clinton campaign has pushed back, noting that other secretaries of State have used private email while in the agency.
Trump called Clinton a retread of the Obama administration and slammed her over the Benghazi, Libya, terror attacks in 2012 that left four Americans dead.
“With Benghazi and our ambassador, that’s all Hillary Clinton, folks. If she wins, and I hope she doesn’t, but if she wins, you better get used to it. You’ll have nothing but turmoil and nothing but four more years of Obama. Our system and our country can’t take it,” he said.
Trump referenced Clinton’s 2008 campaign ad about being ready to answer a pivotal late-night phone call, accusing her of sleeping instead of responding to the Benghazi attacks.
Clinton worked from home during a portion of the night of the attacks, but she told the House Benghazi Committee during testimony that she was awake all night.
