“We have to sort through the decision,” the former Secretary of State said on CNN.
“Yes, there is a right for law-abiding, responsible Americans to own guns. And yes, there are reasonable common-sense measures to try to keep people safe from guns. We’ve got to figure out the best way to move forward on that,” she added.
From the Hill:
Clinton called for the assault weapons ban to be reinstated. The suspected Orlando gunman had a pistol and an AR-15-style rifle, according to authorities.Clinton also pushed back on attacks from her GOP presidential rival, Donald Trump, who has blasted her as weak in going after terrorism in the wake of the attack.“I think that Donald Trump’s rhetoric is quite dangerous to our country,” she said.“We also have to be conscious of the fact that a lot of folks who have no connection with terrorism are using these weapons to murder and maim people as well,” she said.“I’m going to be as firm and strong and single-minded in going after [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria] ISIS as anybody could be … but I also want to save lives from gun violence more broadly as well.”
