Clinton: ‘American People Deserve Better’ Than Gun Control Stalemate
Hillary Clinton blasted House Republicans on Sunday for their inaction on gun control, saying that the American people deserved better.
“No person should be gunned down while learning, teaching, praying or dancing,” Clinton said at the annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Sunday.
“It is time for us to come together to strengthen our gun laws and keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of dangerous people.”
The Hill reports:
Following the Orlando shooting that left 49 people dead and dozens more injured, Democrats in Congress pushed for gun reform through bills that would have strengthened background checks and prevented those on terrorist watch lists from obtaining weapons.
The Republican-controlled Senate rejected four gun control related measures in total last week. Meanwhile, House Democrats staged a day-long sit in to draw attention to the issue, which they vowed to resume after the July 4th break.
“Congress is paralyzed. Not a filibuster in the Senate, not a sit-in in the House could convince the leadership to move forward,” Clinton said. “I really believe the American people deserve better.”
