Wendy Davis ‘Overjoyed’ by Supreme Court Abortion Ruling
Former Texas state senator Wendy Davis celebrated Monday’s abortion ruling by the Supreme Court, saying she “could not be happier” with the ruling.
“I’m overjoyed,” Davis said in an interview with MSNBC. “I have to tell you, I was fighting back tears a moment ago … It’s incredible news for the women of Texas. It’s incredible news for women throughout this country.”
The Hill reports:
The Supreme Court struck down abortion restrictions in a Texas law that would have shut down numerous clinics in the state.
In June 2013, Davis took the floor of the Texas Senate to protest the bill in an 11-hour filibuster that stalled the passage of the bill.
Gov. Rick Perry held a special session to pass the law.
Davis unsuccessfully ran for governor of Texas in 2014.
