White House Defends Political Use of Air Force One

The White House defended using Air Force One to transport President Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton’s rally in North Carolina on Tuesday.

The Hill reports:

President Obama and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will take Air Force One on Tuesday to fly to North Carolina, where they will make their first joint campaign appearance.

The White House said in a statement it was following the rules, adding that the Democratic National Committee and other relevant political committees pay what’s necessary for the president to travel to political events on Air Force One, Bloomberg News reported.

The government does not release the formula used to divide up the travel costs paid by the DNC or campaigns.

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump has launched a series of attacks ripping the president’s use of Air Force One to go to campaign events.

“Why is President Obama allowed to use Air Force One on the campaign trail with Crooked Hillary,” Trump tweeted Monday, adding: “She is flying with him tomorrow. Who pays?”

He kept up the line of attack Tuesday morning, tweeting: “Taxpayers are paying a fortune for the use of Air Force One on the campaign trail by President Obama and Crooked Hillary. A total disgrace!”
