Sanders to Endorse Clinton Next Week: Report
A new report has suggested that Bernie Sanders will endorse Hillary Clinton sometime next week.
The Hill reports:
Sanders, who kept up his presidential campaign even as Clinton became the presumptive Democratic nominee, will back her at a campaign event Tuesday in New Hampshire, the report said.Sanders on Thursday signaled he is close to a formal endorsement, saying in an interview, “We have got to do everything that we can to defeat Donald Trump and elect Hillary Clinton.”“I don’t honestly know how we would survive four years of a Donald Trump.”Sanders’s remarks came during an interview with a Bloomberg reporter for PBS’ “Charlie Rose.”During a Wednesday night interview on MSNBC, Sanders himself didn’t refute speculation that he would endorse Clinton in the next few days.“You’re not denying the reports that there are talks about a possible endorsement?” anchor Chris Hayes asked Sanders.“That’s correct,” he replied.Sanders refused to endorse Clinton after she locked up enough delegates to secure the nomination. But he has moved toward support of Clinton in recent weeks, highlighting areas of agreement with her and vowing to do all he can to defeat Trump. There have also been signs of cooperation between the two camps, after Clinton supported a debt-free public college plan similar to one that was a centerpiece of Sanders’ bid. Sanders confirmed to MSNBC that the two parties are working together. There are still disagreements. Sanders has lamented the Democratic Party Platform Drafting Committee’s decision not to include language explicitly repudiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership and has continued to organize his convention delegates to push for adoption of such language. But the Times report said the disagreement will not prevent an endorsement.
