Poll: Americans Want Alternative to Trump, Clinton

A new poll by Reuters/Ipsos has revealed that a decent number of Americans want an alternative to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

The Hill reports:

Twenty-one percent of likely voters say they will not back either party’s presumptive nominee for president, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Friday.

In contrast, only 13 percent of likely voters said the same thing at this time in 2012.

However, Americans don’t know much about the main third-party candidates, the poll found.

Only 23 percent said they were “somewhat familiar” with Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson, a former New Mexico governor. And just 16 percent said the same of the leading Green Party candidate Jill Stein, a physician.

In a four-way race, the poll found Clinton leading with 45 percent support, Trump at 34 percent, Johnson at five percent and Stein at four percent.

The poll also showed that a majority of American voters have an unfavorable view of both Clinton and Trump.

Forty-seven percent of Trump supporters said their main priority when voting will be to stop Clinton from reaching the White House.

And 46 percent of Clinton backers said the same of Trump.

The poll of 2,153 likely voters has a credibility interval of 2 percentage points.
