Cruz Flying to Dallas with Obama for Memorial in Show of Unity
In a rare showing of Unity, Ted Cruz is flying to Dallas to appear with President Barack Obama at a memorial for the police officers who were killed last Thursday.
The Hill reports:
Cruz was spotted by reporters in the parking lot outside the air terminal at Joint Base Andrews, where guests board the presidential aircraft.
The invitation to the Texas senator — a frequent Obama critic — is a show of unity in the wake of the attack, which dredged up divisive issues such as racism and anti-police sentiment. Former President George W. Bush, who served as the governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000, is also expected to speak at the event.
The Dallas shooter killed five officers and wounded seven others at a protest march against police killings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is also flying with Obama on Air Force One to attend the service.
