Priebus: No ‘Religious Test’ in Trump’s Immigration Ban

RNC head Reince Priebus said on Sunday that Donald Trump’s blanket ban on Muslims will not require a religion test.

The Hill reports:

Instead he supports a “temporary ban on immigration from countries that harbor or train terrorists until we get a better vetting system,” Priebus said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“There is no religious test on the table. It is simply limited to countries that are harboring or training terrorists”

Priebus was responding to questions about differences in opinion between Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, his newly unveiled running mate.

Pence in December had called a Muslim ban “offensive and unconstitutional.”

Trump has in recent weeks shifted away from that rhetoric, instead saying he supports a ban on immigration from terrorism-heavy countries.

In late June Trump called for a temporary ban on “certain people coming from certain horrible — where you have tremendous terrorism in the world, you know what those places are.”
