Jon Stewart Returning to TV Before Elections

Jon Stewart will make a glorious return to TV before the conclusion of this year’s election.

The Hill reports:

Stewart, 53, who became an icon in entertainment and political commentary during his 16-year run as host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show”, will be launching his new program on HBO “sometime in September or October,” according to the premium cable network’s programming president, Casey Bloys.

The as-yet-untitled show will be an “animated parody of a cable news network, with kind of an Onion-like portal,” Bloys said.

Stewart is reportedly “establishing an animation studio because he wants to get material out multiple times a day,” to allow him to “comment in real-time during the day’s news events.”

Stewart signed a four-year deal with HBO after leaving Comedy Central last summer. He has largely been out of public view but did appear on CBS’s “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” during the recent Republican and Democratic national conventions.
