Khan Slams Trump’s Purple Heart Comments: ‘You Did Not Serve’
Khzir Khan, the father of Army Capt. Humayun Khan, blasted Donald Trump on Wednesday, saying that he had no right to criticize anyone’s military achievements as he did not serve himself.

“A man comes to him, a veteran, so kindly, what a gracious man, hands him his Purple Heart. What he does: he receives it, thanks him, puts it in his pocket, later on pulls it out, ‘I got this Purple Heart, so easy, I always wanted one,'” Khizr Khan said Tuesday on CNN.
“Donald Trump. You had the time. You did not serve.”
The Hill reports:
A military veteran on Tuesday presented Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, with a Purple Heart ahead of his rally in Virginia. The man was identified as a lieutenant colonel. The Purple Heart is a military award given to someone who is wounded or killed while serving.
“Man, that’s big stuff,” Trump said Tuesday during his rally.
“I always wanted to get the Purple Heart — this was much easier. I’ll tell you, it was such an honor.”
Khan on Tuesday lashed out at Trump, slamming the billionaire for his lack of empathy.
“You know what you should have done — and listen to me and I want his surrogates to listen to me. You should have pinned that back to that veteran’s chest and should have hugged him and thanked him,” he said.
“I’m just so upset at this lack of empathy, lack of common sense.”
Trump was granted one medical and four educational deferments during the Vietnam War, which kept him out of the conflict, The New York Times reported Monday.
Khan also said he isn’t looking for an apology from Trump for his comments about his son, but he wants the candidate to show some empathy. He said the GOP nominee doesn’t “comprehend what is coming out of his month.”
“Donald Trump: do you have any sense of decency?” he asked.
Khan spoke critically of Trump last week at the Democratic National Convention. In his speech, the elder Khan asked if Trump had read the Constitution and said the GOP nominee had sacrificed nothing.
In response, Trump criticized Khan and questioned why his wife did not speak at the convention too, suggesting it had something to do with her religion.
He also noted the sacrifices he’s made in his business career and said Khizr Khan had no right to question his views on the Constitution.
