Dem Rep: Secret Service Must Investigate Trump
Eric Swalwell calls for the Secret Service to instigate Trump over his remarks for Hillary to be shot.
The Hill Reports:
Swalwell’s tweet followed a Trump rally in Wilmington, N.C., where the GOP nominee discussed what kind of Supreme Court judges Clinton would appoint as president.
“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the Second Amendment,” he said. “By the way, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”
Clinton’s campaign quickly pounced on Trump’s remark, suggesting the billionaire had gone too far.
“This is simple — what Trump is saying is dangerous,” campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement. “A person seeking to be the president of the United States should not suggest violence in any way.”
The Trump camp, meanwhile, downplayed the comment in a response attacking the “dishonest media.”
“It’s called the power of unification – 2nd Amendment people have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power,” Jason Miller, a top Trump aide, said in a statement.
“And this year, they will be voting in record numbers, and it won’t be for Hillary Clinton, it will be for Donald Trump.”
Trump has repeatedly used Supreme Court vacancies as a means of wooing skeptical Republicans to his campaign, arguing that Clinton would appoint only liberal justices and tilt the nation’s laws too far left.
The uproar comes a day after Trump tried to refocus his campaign with a tightly scripted speech on his economic policies.
