Trump: Unethical DOJ Needs Independent Prosecutor to Probe Clinton

Donald Trump called on the Department of Justice to appoint an independent prosecutor to oversee a Hillary Clinton investigation on Monday.

The Hill reports:

At a rally in Akron, Ohio, the GOP presidential nominee stepped up his attacks on the Clinton Foundation after saying it should immediately shut down earlier in the day. He also continued to hammer Clinton over her use of a private email server while secretary of State, in the wake of 15,000 more emails uncovered by the FBI on Monday.

“After the FBI and Department of Justice whitewash of the Clinton email crimes, they certainly cannot be trusted to quickly or impartially investigate Hillary Clinton’s crimes,” Trump said.

“Some former prosecutors have even suggested that the coordination between the pay-for-play State Department and the corrupt Clinton Foundation constitute a clear example of a RICO enterprise,” he continued, referring to the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, an anti-corruption law.

“The Justice Department is required to appoint an independent special prosecutor because it has proven itself to be a political arm of the White House.”

Last month, the FBI decided not to recommend criminal charges against Clinton, though FBI Director James Comey said there was evidence she was “extremely careless” in handling classified emails on her private server. The Justice Department also said it won’t prosecute Clinton over her emails.

Trump knocked the Justice Department for acting “very unethically” and noted former President Bill Clinton’s private meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch while she was still investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

“The DOJ has acted very unethically, particularly the attorney general’s private lengthy meeting with Bill Clinton shortly before the Department’s decision not to prosecute her for crimes that would have been prosecuted against almost any other citizen,” Trump said.

“If the Justice Department fails to do so, it will make it even clearer that a second of the four primary constitutional departments have been corrupted,” he added.
