Sanders Slams EpiPen Maker: ‘Very Wrong’ to Value Profits over Lives

Bernie Sanders, on Wednesday, blasted the pharmaceutical company responsible for raising the prices of EpiPens.

The Hill reports:

“It’s not a mystery why drug companies raise their prices to obscene levels,” he added. “Just look at the multi-million dollar paychecks their CEOs get.”

Sanders, in a series of tweets, highlighted other drugs by EpiPen’s maker, Mylan, that have seen their prices go up.

“While Americans are dying because they can’t afford Mylan’s egregious drug prices, the company’s CEO got a 671% raise to over $18 million,” the former presidential contender said.

“Mylan has raised prices more than 20% on 24 medications, and more than 100% on seven medications,” Sanders tweeted.

“The quality of Mylan’s drugs isn’t improving, but the company thinks it is acceptable to quadruple their prices.”

He said the company’s “greed is apparently limitless,” citing an article saying the company not only raised the price of the EpiPen but also dodges U.S. taxes.

Since 2007, the price of the EpiPen has increased 400 percent.

Members of Congress have expressed concern over the price increase and called for a hearing on the issue. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton on Wednesday called on the manufacturer to immediately reduce the price of the device.
