Spokeswoman: Trump Not Changing Immigration Stance, Just His Words
Donald Trump’s infamous spokesperson, Katrina Pierson, said on Thursday that Trump’s immigration stance was still the same and that he had only changed his words.
“He hasn’t changed his position on immigration. He’s changed the words that he is saying,” Pierson said on CNN.
“What he has always said from the beginning is that he does not want to allow people to stay in this country illegally. He does want to build a wall.”
The Hill reports:
When pressed, Pierson continued to say that Trump is not giving a different message but is just “using different words to give that message.”
“Everyone on the news is saying that he’s a bigot and that he’s a racist because of the words that he uses,” Pierson said.
“Now, he’s simply saying, yeah, we are going to follow the law. We are going to enforce the law.”
Trump has faced scrutiny over his immigration policies.
Earlier this week, the GOP nominee said there would be no amnesty for illegal immigrants during his presidency. He was asked Wednesday night on Fox News’s “Hannity” about his initial pledge to deport those in the U.S. illegally and if he’d include an exception for those who have proved to be “a fair citizen.”
“No citizenship. Let me go a step further — they’ll pay back taxes; they have to pay taxes. There’s no amnesty, as such. There’s no amnesty, but we work with them,” Trump said.
