Streisand: ‘I’m Ready to Do Whatever It Takes to Help Hillary’
Singer and actress Barbara Streisand threw her full support behind Hillary Clinton on Sunday when she made it clear she would do anything to help her get elected.
The Hill reports:
In an email sent to Clinton supporters, Streisand said she is “thrilled” that the former secretary of State is running for president and is proud to support her. The actress called Clinton smart and commended her for her experience.
“I’m spending an evening campaigning with Hillary in New York City next week, and I would love to meet you there,” Streisand said in the email before encouraging supporters to add their name to a list for a chance to win a free trip to the fundraiser.
Streisand then touched on her experiences to explain what Clinton’s candidacy means to her.
“When I was a kid and told my mom I wanted to be an actress, she said, ‘Well, you’re not pretty enough; you better cut your nails off and become a typist so you’ll have a job,’ ” she wrote.
“Years later, I was trying to make my first movie, Yentl, and man after man in Hollywood told me I was just an actress — I could never direct and produce a film.”
Streisand said so many people, especially women, know what it feels like to be told, “No, you can’t.”
“It’s easy to believe that about ourselves. It’s harder to believe the truth: that we have power, and we can use it. Hillary Clinton is the proof.”
