Gary Johnson Rips Trump’s Mexico ‘Photo Op’
Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson slammed Donald Trump’s ignorance in Mexico, claiming that it was just a photo opportunity and nothing more.
The Hill reports:
“Americans, and particularly Latinos, deserve better than the performance we witnessed tonight from Donald Trump,” Johnson said in a statement late Wednesday.
“He goes to Mexico for a photo op with President [Enrique] Peña Nieto, claims to have a great meeting, and then flies to Phoenix to deliver the same incendiary message of nativism and divisiveness that he used to launch his campaign a year ago,” he said, slamming the Republican presidential nominee for using “the same worn out anti-immigrant rhetoric that too many politicians have been using for years.”Trump on Wednesday visited Mexico City to meet privately with Peña Nieto. He held a joint press conference with Peña Nieto afterward, touting his “shared objective” with the Mexican president to end illegal immigration between the U.S. and Mexico.
“This is a humanitarian disaster — the dangerous treks, the abuse by gangs and cartels and the extreme physical dangers — and it must be solved,” Trump said in Mexico.
He gave a speech later Wednesday in Phoenix, Ariz., quashing any thought that he would soften his stance on immigration, detailing a 10-point, hard-line plan to deal with illegal immigration.
“Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation. That is what it means to have laws and to have a country,” he said. “Otherwise we don’t have a country.”
