Report: Trump’s NY Real Estate Empire Used $885M in Tax Breaks

According to a New York Times report, Donald Trump may have taken advantage of almost $900 million in tax breaks over the past 36 years.

The Hill reports:

Donald Trump has taken at least $885 million in tax breaks for his real estate projects in New York since 1980, The New York Times reported on Saturday.

On three separate occasions, Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has sued the city when former mayors Edward Koch, Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg tried to deny him tax breaks for Trump Tower and Trump World Tower.

Those two projects netted him $157 million in tax breaks. Another one of his buildings, the Trump International Hotel and Tower, received $15.9 million in tax breaks.

“In many cases, they made the difference between building and not being able to build,” Trump said. “I’ve gotten incentives in other parts of the world as well.”

It’s also been reported that Trump took advantage of a grant after 9/11 designed for small businesses, even though he had admitted that his building near Ground Zero was not damaged in the attack.
