Trump Campaign Official: ‘No Racism’ Before Obama

A Trump campaign county chairwoman has stated controversial views about racism and the Obama administration, stating that racism did not exist prior to his  terms in office.

The Hill reports:

A county chairwoman for Donald Trump’s campaign in Ohio suggests in a new interview that President Obama is to blame for racism.

“I don’t think there was any racism until Obama got elected. We never had problems like this,” Kathy Miller told The Guardian for a story published Thursday.

Miller, who is white, is coordinating Trump’s campaign in Ohio’s Mahoning County, the 10th-largest county by population in the battleground state.

“Now, with the people with the guns and shooting up neighborhoods and not being responsible citizens, that’s a big change, and I think that’s the philosophy that Obama has perpetuated on America,” Miller continued.

“If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault. You’ve had every opportunity, it was given to you,” she said.

“You’ve had the same schools everybody else went to. You had benefits to go to college that white kids didn’t have. You had all the advantages and didn’t take advantage of it. It’s not our fault, certainly.”

Miller, who said she graduated from high school in the 1960s, then commented on racial tensions.

“Growing up as a kid, there was no racism, believe me. We were just all kids going to school.”

Trump has made several appeals to black voters in recent weeks as he looks to close the gap with Hillary Clinton among the demographic and on Wednesday said he is “troubled” by the killing of an unarmed black man by a police officer in Tulsa, Okla.
