Obama Rips Trump’s Miss Universe Comments

President Barack Obama tore into Donald Trump on Wednesday over his comments about former Miss Universe Alicia Machado.

“You had somebody who basically insulted women and then doubled down,” Obama said in aninterview on the “Steve Harvey Morning Show.”

The Hill reports:

The president added that the way Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, talks about women’s weight and looks “instead of the content of their character and their capabilities” means he “is not somebody that I want in the Oval Office.”

Obama has gone on the offensive against Trump following Monday night’s presidential debate, seeking to boost Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who was widely viewed as the winner of the event.

During the debate at Hofstra University, Clinton cited Venezuelan-born Alicia Machado’s experience at the Trump-owned Miss Universe pageant in 1996 as proof of Trump’s poor treatment of women.

Trump publicly urged Machado to lose weight, calling her an “eating machine.”

Trump defended his comments about Machado in post-debate interviews.

“When she brought up that person that became — I know that person. That person was a Miss Universe person. And she was the worst we ever had,” Trump said Tuesday on “Fox and Friends.

“Ultimately a winner,” he added, “who they had a tremendously difficult time with as Miss Universe. … She was the winner, and she gained a massive amount of weight, and it was — it was a real problem.”
