Clinton Mocks Trump With Her Own 3 a.m. Tweetstorm

Hillary Clinton one-upped Donald Trump on Twitter after he mocked her ability to answer a 3AM phone call, in reference to a previous commercial she made when running against Obama in 2008.

The Hill reports:

Hillary Clinton took a page out of Donald Trump’s book early Saturday, posting a series of tweets in the middle of the night.

The difference: Clinton’s tweetstorm focused on national service and avoided any talk of a sex tape.

“It’s 3:20am. As good a time as any to tweet about national service,” Clinton’s first tweet said, with a link to a Medium post describing her plans for a new National Service Reserve program designed to encourage volunteering among young Americans.

Her follow-up tweets, all posted between 3:20 and 3:30, called for tripling AmeriCorps memberships and forgiving student loans for those who go into national service.

There are hundreds of thousands more @AmeriCorps applications than spots. Horrible! Let’s expand it from 75,000 annual members to 250,000.

Too many talented young people pass up on programs like @Peacecorps because of student loans. Let’s use GOOD JUDGMENT & lighten that burden.

Remember, don’t believe the haters who describe America as hopeless and broken. We should lift each other up, not tear each other down.

For those few people knocking public service, hope you’ll reconsider answering the call to help others. Because we’re stronger together.

Clinton’s tweetstorm came a day after Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, posted a series of tweets between 3:20 and 5:30 a.m. Friday morning seeking to discredit former Miss Universe Alicia Machado by drawing attention to tawdry details about her past, including allegations — debunked by fact-checkers — that she filmed a “sex tape.”

Clinton tore into Trump on Friday, calling the tweets “unhinged, even for Trump,” and asking, “What kind of man stays up all night to smear a woman with lies and conspiracy theories?”

Trump defended his late-night tweeting, saying that if a global emergency took place in the middle of the night, “at least you know I will be there, awake, to answer the call!”
