NBC News Host Turns Tables on Giuliani as He Tries to Defend Trump
Rudy Giuliani tried to defend Donald Trump on “Meet the Press” when discussing the lewd comments Trump made on a tape released last week.
The Hill reports:
“Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd turned the tables on Rudy Giuliani during a Sunday morning interview on NBC as the former New York City mayor tried to shift away from Donald Trump’s obscene remarks about women.
“One thing he’s not is two people,” Giuliani, a top Trump surrogate, said about the Republican presidential nominee.
Giuliani then brought up Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s recently leaked Wall Street speeches, which were found among emails allegedly stolen from her campaign chairman, John Podesta, and dumped online by WikiLeaks.
“Hillary Clinton actually, specifically, described that she’s two people, to the financial people who were giving her millions of dollars, she’s on their side,” Giuliani told Todd, “but she tells them she has to pretend to everybody else that she isn’t.”
Todd then threw the premise right back at Giuliani.
“If you believe that Hillary Clinton says one thing in private and that means what she really is, is what she is in private, should we assume that what Donald Trump did in that ‘Access Hollywood’ bus is really what Donald Trump is in private?” he asked.
“That’s what you’re implying here with Hillary Clinton.”
Giuliani was momentarily speechless, letting out an exasperated sigh.
Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, was originally slated to appear on “Meet the Press” but was switched out at the last minute with Giuliani, who also took her spot on “Fox News Sunday.”
On Fox, Giuliani was asked about the last-minute change. “I think it was a question of scheduling,” he replied.
