Kaine Delivers Speech in Spanish During Church Service
Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate, delivered a speech in Spanish at a church service on Sunday.
The Hill reports:
The Virginia senator’s speech marks the first time a member of a presidential ticket has made an address entirely in Spanish, according to the network.
During the speech at Pneuma Church in Miami, Kaine spoke about his time in Honduras as a missionary.
“Yo soy catolico,” he said during the speech.
The Virginia senator urged parishioners to vote in the general election.
After his speech, Kaine received a blessing from the pastor.
Hillary Clinton’s Democratic presidential campaign has been reaching out to Hispanics, encouraging them to vote in the upcoming election.
According to CNN, nearly 25 percent of Clinton’s Florida organizing staff speaks Spanish.
There has also reportedly been a “huge spike” in vote by mail requests from Hispanic voters in Florida, a campaign aide told CNN.
Polls show the Democratic nominee with a significant lead over her Republican rival, Donald Trump, among Hispanic voters.
